How to Become a Spirit of Giving Grant Recipient

Applications to Spirit of Giving are accepted annually with a deadline of September 1.  You will be notified by September 15th if you have been chosen. Applying organization must be a recognized 501(C)(3) group serving the vulnerable and underserved populations in Wood County, WV, and/or Washington County, OH, where we primarily do business.   Thank you for your interest in Spirit of Giving, and thank you for all you do to make our Valley a better place!

Applications are now being submitted through the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation’s online grant portal. Organizations who have applied for a grant through the PACF recently and have used their new portal can simply log in to access the Spirit of Giving application. For organizations that have not applied recently to the PACF, you will need to create an account in order to apply.

The Spirit of Giving Story

The Spirit of Giving fund was created by Pat Minnite, Sr., at the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation in 2007 as a source to benefit local charitable efforts and non-profit organizations through grants. It took on a life of its own when it became the focus of our annual Christmas party at the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center.

Once upon a time, The PM Company sent cards, chocolates, and other typical gifts to our associates during the holidays. Then it occurred to us that the money spent on those tokens of appreciation could go further, and be more meaningful, if we all came together to celebrate the true meaning of the season. We asked our tenants, vendors, and business partners to join us in collecting donations of goods and dollars for several local groups who serve those in need, and the Spirit of Giving was born.

Spirit of Giving 2021

2021 was a great year, as we collectively raised over $121,000 and distributed surprise additional funding to our grantees.  This year, we will accept grant applications through September. 1, and will announce recipients by September 15th. We then ask our partners to join us in funding those who will be benefiting, and we all start working together to raise money and items to help their cause. In early December, we will meet for a great Christmas party, and invite the grant recipient groups. The PM Company matches whatever dollars have been raised, and our gifts have increased steadily since our first year. In 2015 and 2016, we donated over $60,000 each year to area organizations. In 2017 we celebrated our tenth anniversary by breaking $100,000, and we continue to raise over $100,000 each year. We trust that our efforts will continue to grow, as we affirm our goal to give back in the most positive way. The Spirit of Giving truly speaks to the mission of The PM Company, and to the spirit instilled in our family by our patriarch, Pat, Sr.
